CVE-2017-0144 is a remote code execution vulnerability found in Microsoft's Server Message Block (SMB) version 1 (SMBv1) protocol. This flaw allows an unauthenticated, remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on a vulnerable system. The vulnerability arises from how the SMBv1 server handles specially crafted packets, which can lead to a buffer overflow, enabling the attacker to overwrite memory and run code with elevated privileges. This vulnerability affects various versions of Microsoft Windows, including Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, and several Windows Server editions (2008, 2012, 2016). Microsoft released a security update (MS17-010) in March 2017 to address this issue. The exploit associated with CVE-2017-0144 is widely known as "EternalBlue."

Description
The SMBv1 server in Microsoft Windows Vista SP2; Windows Server 2008 SP2 and R2 SP1; Windows 7 SP1; Windows 8.1; Windows Server 2012 Gold and R2; Windows RT 8.1; and Windows 10 Gold, 1511, and 1607; and Windows Server 2016 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via crafted packets, aka "Windows SMB Remote Code Execution Vulnerability." This vulnerability is different from those described in CVE-2017-0143, CVE-2017-0145, CVE-2017-0146, and CVE-2017-0148.
